What They Say

Thailand and the United Kingdom have long enjoyed diplomatic relations of 160 years. To mark the milestone,Thailand’s Ministry of Culture launched the “Totally Thai” campaign.

In collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy in London, the spectacular show of Khōn – Thai mask play, was held at the legendary Royal Albert Hall on the 18th of June 2015. The performance integrated the arts of singing, dancing and acting whereas the group of 60 actors were dressed in exquisite, bejewelled regalia.

As part of the Totally Thai campaign, the Thai Film Festival will be organised at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) this week. The festival aims to attract a wider international recognition of the Thai film industry.

The festival kicks off on Thursday the 25th with the opening gala, followed by the screening of Teacher’s Diary. The rom-com was selected as the Thai entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards. Directed by Nithiwat Tharathorn, the film stars one of Thailand’s leading actresses Laila ‘Ploy’ Boonyasak and singer-turned-actor Sukrit Wisetkaew.

To shed more light on the film and the overall Thai film industry, Nithiwat and ‘Ploy’ will attend the opening night of the festival. The star and director will be answering questions during the Q&A session, hosted by Thai-British model Neeranat ‘Nuch’ Coates.
